The Hairy Frog and the Teething Baby

Trichobatrachus robustus, or the Hairy Frog of Sub-Saharan Africa, is the Baby Boy's totem animal of the month. This unique frog has the uncanny ability to pierce its own skin with a shard of bone, supposedly in the name of survival. The bone in its foot is dislodged with the twitch of the right muscle, breaking the amphibian skin from its resting place deep within a sheathed nodule. The bone is fully capable of producing deep, bleeding wounds. The Hairy Frog is also known as a "squeaker" due to its high-pitched calls.

On the other hand, Baby Boy has the uncanny ability to pierce his own skin with a shard of bone, also supposedly in the name of survival. His primary teeth are continually growing through solid bone and erupting through his gums. The tooth is fully capable of producing deep, bleeding wounds. The Baby Boy is also known as a "squeaker" due to his high-pitched teething cries.

This obvious comparison, combined with Baby Boy's bullfrog resemblance at birth, lend absolute credence to the theory of convergent evolution. Come to think of it, he did look a little bit like a tadpole at the first ultrasound.
